But the camera thing? Fucking cool. I want to shoot photos with a cyclops olympic mascot so bad.

So glad summer is here and the school term is done so I can concentrate on photography again for the next four months. Here’s one from Poirier & MC Zulu’s dope show at the Biltmore on saturday night. Amazing to dance to as canucks girl attested to. After this show I joined Gnarwhale peeps at a pretty ridiculous bridge party next to the Home Depot on Terminal street.

Shit like that needs to happen in Vancouver more often. Way too fun.

So I recently moved in to 7th and Main/Kingsway with Andy Chung. We just set our office up and I can already see the motivating effects this has. I just want to work constantly now that I have an ‘office’ and not a tiny room in university residence. I know it looks cramped in the picture, but it’s actually quite spacious and awesome! Just ordered a new monitor, can’t wait to set it up here and edit photos on a proper screen. It’ll probably make me want to re-edit all my photos ever.

On to iphone photography, which is the best type of photography in the world right now. Still obsessed with the Autostitch app, but I’ve recently been skipping Millcolour for Photoforge. This app costs $2.99, which is more expensive than the zero dollars that Millcolour costs, but it’s one hell of a powerful app. Levels, colour adjustments, bw adjustments, clone stamp (?!), filters, cropping, curves, lots more. Ever made points on a curve and moved them around using your fingers? Yea, me neither. It’s amazing and makes you wonder what photo editing programs on the iPad could be like. Photoforge is relatively quick working and it saves your photo when you quit the app so you don’t have to re-edit things all over again. Definitely highly recommended.

About a month into owning my first iPhone and I’m already sold on this thing as the future of photography. I know I’m years late to the party on this, but it really is remarkable. It makes me not want to shoot my DSLR or even my point and shoot because it erases the entire hassle process of transferring files and working on them whilst grounded at a computer. Now I have a touch-screen (!) editing device that is not only also a photo-taking device, but is also portable which has equated to many photo-editing sessions when I have free time on the bus – and I can upload those photos onto the net before I get home. When iPad apps for photography become properly established, I hope they can edit RAW photos from my DSLR so I can ditch the computer altogether. Traveling and editing photos in my lap on a relatively inexpensive touch-screen device with an IPS screen? Perfect.

Here’s an iphone photo taken from my residence at UBC. Have less than two weeks left at this spot before moving to Main st with Flash-hater, Andy Chung. Will miss this view! But I’m super stoked to soon be living at the best location ever – two blocks from Congee Noodle House.

This photo was stitched together using the incredible Autostitch Panorama app which is currently $1.99 and was developed right here in Vancouver. After putting it together, it was edited with Millcolour which is a free app that is surprisingly good and you should definitely hit up if you want a good free iphonetography app. Have been pretty addicted to the photographic potential of the iPhone so look for more app ‘reviews’ soon! PS: if you haven’t seen the work of Nick Maggio, definitely check it out. All shot an iphone and way too good. Love this photo of his. Blahh!

Slammed with studying for end-of-term exams, really looking forward to them being done in ten days so I can get back to photography and editing lots of backlogged photographs. Have much planned.

Happy Chinese New Year, Valentine’s Day, and Olympic gold-at-home-drought-ending-day! Even though I’m not Canadian by blood or passport, I’ve lived here for the past 7 years and this really feels like home. Walking around Vancouver today was really really exciting – it’s amazing to see this city transformed. Been totally glued to the TV and twitter just watching everyone’s reactions hehe.

Red Bull Thre3Style has been amazing so far. The Edmonton party had such great energy and to top it off I managed to hang out with friend and BMXer Jaumell Campbell and his super rad house of animals afterwards. A few days later I traveled east again for Red Bull Thre3Style Toronto which was off the hook madness. Here’s a pic of a hand from there.

Next up: Flying Lotus in Vancouver on tuesday, Red Bull Thre3Style Quebec City on thursday, Thre3Style Montreal friday, and Thre3Style Moncton on Saturday. Will probably be doing more shoots in between those – the shutter actuations don’t stop.

Back to Olympic talk. Now that we have that first gold out the way, we need to focus on getting more. When you see Olivier Jean and Charles Hamelin flying around the speed skating track, remember to cheer extra hard!
